How nice it was, to be invited to participate in the first-ever equine art exhibit at the Northeast Horsemen's Conference held in the Augusta Civic Center, January 16 & 17. I was in very good company, because Kathi Peters, Beth Carlson, Penelope Plumb and Katherine Prendergast also exhibited their work. I loved talking with them and enjoying the great variety of styles, use of color and choices of mediums. Oil, acrylic, and pencil were represented, and I think I also saw some watercolors.
The artwork was beautifully set off by the black drapes which formed the backdrop throughout the exhibit area, which was arranged so viewers could stroll, and enjoy, at their leisure. Though located on the main floor with all of the vendor spaces, the black drapes kept it sectioned off and somewhat protected, yet completely accessible to all. I loved the way it was set up.
And now we're well into February. With the days getting longer, and the sun higher in the sky, inspiration increases, so new art is in the works, and my novel for 8-12-year olds is coming right along! Isn't the creative life fun!

- Born in Buxton, Maine, I have lived in Maine for all but two years of my life. My favorite season is spring, though in each season there is a lot to enjoy. Having lived 50 miles inland for over 15 years, I am glad to be back living in the Saco/Kennebunk area where I grew up. I love living so much closer to the ocean, and enjoy keeping in contact with my children and grandchildren, who all live within 1 1/2 hours of me. Also I enjoy writing letters to friends and family, and doing some volunteer work, and I enjoy mowing the lawn and shoveling snow. Lawn mowing is best; when I don't get a chance to do so, I can still get out of the driveway, whereas with snow....... The local library is one of my favorite spots to browse through.

I like how you describe yourself as spring being your favorite season, though you enjoy them all. I find myself in a similar pair of shoes.
Spring is a hope of things to come and generates excitment in the creative corners of my sleepy winter brain.
My book devouring 11 year old is writing a book about a farm girl named Becky, so I think I'll try to expand her drawing medium to water colors this summer for her illustrations.
As for myself, my art may be stained glass for a particular window in the foyer...
So to prepare for such endevours... the attic may be done up as the "studio" where such projects are left to our artistic whims!

'Sleepy winter brain' is exactly right. I wondered why I couldn't seem to Get With It, and sure enough, once Spring took hold enough outside, I began to feel much more excited about starting new things. Much as you do, Mrs. Mike. I enjoyed hearing that Becky is writing a book about a farm girl. Won't she have fun with this project. I'm sure she'll enjoy those watercolors as much as I loved the ones my Mom gave me. They actually were hers, but with 4 children to raise she felt she would rather give them to me. I used them for so many years--and sometimes I still go to them when I don't want to take the time to mix a certain shade, and think of that Just Right color that is just sitting right there in its pan, in that black metal box.
Won't you have fun putting the attic studio to use! I wish you success with the stained glass. My sister enjoys doing that. It makes up into lovely things! Enjoy!
